What would be a good professional digital camera to start off with?
well, im into photography and i have been wanting to buy a professional digital camera for sometime now. I didn’t have the money then, but i have it now. ive been looking into the nikon d200 but im not entirely sure of what camera to buy. any suggestions? thank you so much in advance.
The Pavlovian response is nearly always “Canon!” “Nikon!” as though there were no other choices. Sony, Pentax and Olympus all offer very good DSLRs with a more than adequate selection of lenses and accessories.
Sony and Pentax both have their versions of Image Stabilization (IS) in the Camera Body. Nikon and Canon have theirs in some lenses. The debate over which is better is the photographic equivalent of “Is Chevy better than Ford?” Olympus “cheats” (in my opinion) by using in-camera IS in some models but not all.
I suggest going to each manufacturers’ web site and reading the specs on the different models. Write down the model number and what features it has that appeal to you. Then go to http://www.bhphotovideo.com and compare the price for the different models. You can check at http://www.adorama.com and http://www.keh.com and http://www.samyscamera.com and http://www.cametacamera.com but you’ll likely find only a few dollars difference in price. If you should happen to find a really low price that seems too good to be true then check that seller at http://www.resellerratings.com
The Sony DSLR line can use every Minolta Maxxum/Dynax AF lens made since 1985. A 24 year old AF 300mm lens will be an IS lens.
The Pentax DSLR line can use – with some limitations – every Pentax K-mount lens made since 1975. A 34 year old 300mm lens will be an IS lens.
So do some research and then make your purchase based on which camera offers you the most features and benefits for the best price.
